Today, 6 August 2013 is Bheemana Amavasya. It is also known as Jyotir Bheemeswara Vrata, Pathi Sanjivani Puja, Divasi Gauri Vratham is observed on Ashada Amavasya in Karnataka. It is also referred to as Nagara Amavasya.
Married women perform the vrata for better health and longer life of their husband. Women worship the divine couple, Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, on this Amavasya day.
Bhimana Amavasya Vrata katha or legend of Bhimana Amavasya is mentioned in the Skanda Purana. Thambittu Deepa or Thembittu Deepam and Bhandara Hodiyuvudhu are the main aspects of Bhima Amavasya vrata which is also referred to as Jyothir Bhimeshwara Vrata or Pathi Sanjivani vrata.
