Gatari Amavasya 2012, Gatari Festival in Maharashtra

Gatari Amavasya, most popularly known as Gatari, is a Marathi regional festival celebrated especially in Maharashtra and some parts of Goa. Gatari Amavasya 2012 date is July 19. Gatari Amavasya falls on Ashad Amavasya, the No Moon day in Ashad Maas in Marathi calendar. Gatari is a celebration of joy and festivity. On Gatari day, Marathi people enjoy eating non-vegetarin food, drinking and invite Shravan month with utmost fervor. This year, it is observed as Shani Amavasya as it falls on Shanivar (Saturday).

Gatari Amavasya is celebrated as Haryali Amavasya in Gujarat and Bhimana Amavasya vrata in Karantaka. In Andhra Pradesh, Ashada Amavasya is celebrated as Chukkala Amavasya.
