Thunderstorm on Tripurantakam Balatripurasundari Devi Temple, Gopuram destroyed partially

Due to a thunderstorm on Tripurantakam Balatripurasundari Devi Temple, Gopuram destroyed partially on 28 November 2013.

Due to the heavy rains which have been lashing the villages and towns of Coastal Andhra Pradesh as an effect of Lehar Cyclone, the thunderstorm occurred in the temple town, Tripurantakam.

Tripurantakam is a temple town of Prakasham district of Andhra Pradesh where Tripurantakeswara swamy temple is located along with the Balatripurasundari Devi Temple.

As per Shiva Purana Shiva destroyed Tripurasuras (demons ruling three cities) here. Since he destroyed the three cities along with the demons he is called Tripuranthakeswara and this place is called Tripuranthakam.

Tripurantaka Bala Tripurasundari Devi (swayambhu) is the first incarnation of Adiparasakthi. Here, the Goddess is in the form of a little Girl. she helped Lord shiva in destruction of Tripuras and Tripurasuras. Tripuranthakam is considered as eastern gateway of Srisailam.
