Surat Ganesh Mandals to fund education for poor children for this year during Ganesh Chaturthi 2013. According to the Surat Ganesh Utsav Samiti officials “We want every mandal to help needy children and also widows. We also want the mandals to finance the medical treatment of poor patients. This will be the real Ganesh Utsav for the city.”
Surat Ganesh Utsav Samiti has decided to ask every member to contribute some funds for the education of poor children of the city. It also has announced a code of conduct for its 900 members.
Pandals of different shapes and sizes have come in different parts of the city. It is estimated that 10,000 pandals will be set up in the city for 10 days. The festival which begins on September 9 will see installation of 30,000 Ganesh idols in the city, including homes.
Surat Ganesh Utsav Samiti has also urged to use only Clay Ganesha idols for the Ganesh Puja in order to save environment from pollution.
