Sri Tirumuruganathawami temple is located in the village named Tirumuruganpoondi, in the district of Tiruppur, in the state of Tamil Nadu in South India. The primary deity of this temple is Tirumuruganathar (Lord Shiva) and his consorts are Avudainayaki and Mangalambikai.
The holy tree of this temple is none. The holy waters of this temple are Shanmuga theertham, Gnana theertham and Brahmma theertham. The agamam or pooja of this temple is known as Kameeyam. This temple is nearly 1000-2000 years old in this region. The historical name of this place is none.
According to local pundits and legends, “Sundaramurthy Nayanar has sung the praise of the Lord in Thevaram hymns. “Oh Lord, You belong to Thiruvottriyur, with the sacred ash adoring you enjoying the chanting of the Vedas. What that brought you as a security to the people of Tirumuruganpoondi, I am unable to understand the reason”.
Tirumuruganpoondi is the second sacred place in the Kongu region sung in Thevaram hymns.”
The main festivals of this temple are Vaikasi Visakam in May-June, the 13 day celebrations in the month of Masi (February-March), Navarathri in September-October, Maha Shivrathri in Febuary –March, Tirukarthikai in November-December, Annabishekam, Skanda Sashti in October-November, Arudra Darshan in December-January and Thaipoosam in January-February.
In this shrine, the Lord is a Swayambumurthi. The temple is open for all from 5.30 a.m. to 12.45 p.m. and 3.30 p.m. to 8.15 p.m. according to the temple priest, the Brahmma theertham has the power to cure all the disease and heal too.
