Sri Somalingaswami Temple is situated in the tiny village known as Somalingapuram, Dindigul district of Tamil Nadu in South India. The principal deity of this temple is Sholingaswami (Lord Shiva) and his consort is none.
The holy tree of this temple is Vilwa. The holy water of this temple is Vedhi theertham. The agamam or pooja of this temple is called as Kameeyam. This temple is about 1000-2000 years old in this region. The historical name of this spot is Somalingapuram.
The principal festivals of this particular shrine are in February-March-Masi Magam with 10 day Brahmmotsavam drawing huge crowd of pilgrims and devotees, All Aadi Fridays in July-August, Tirukarthikai in November-December, all Pradosham days falling on the 13th day from new moon or full moon days, Shivrathri in February-March, Karthikai third Monday in November-December with conch abishek, Aadi Amavasya-new moon day in July-August, Manickavasagar festival in December-January, Purattasi Navarathri in September-October, Aipasi Annabishekam, Annabishekam in October-November, Skanda Sashti, Soora Samharam in Octobr November, Chitra Poornima in April-May, Aani Tirumanjanam in June-July and Margazhi Tiruvadirai are grandly celebrated in this temple. It is a shrine that is visited often by local peoples too.
The temple is open for devotees and pilgrims from 6.00 a.m. to 12.00 a.m. and from 5.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m. Lord Shiva in the shrine is a swayambumurthy. It is to be highly noted that noted personalities who gathered here to perform penance seeking Lord Shiva’s darshan are Siddhas, Kundalini Siddha, Meikandar, Vazhayanandar and Mukthanandar.
