Sri Rudra Kodeeswarar temple is based in the sub-town known as Velukkudi, in the district of Tiruvarur, in the state of Tamil Nadu in Southern India. The principal deity of this temple is Rudra Kodeeswarar (Lord Shiva) and his consort is none.
The holy tree of this temple is Banayan tree. The holy water of this temple is nearby stream water. The agamam or pooja of this temple is known as Kameeyam. This temple is nearly 1000-2000 years old in this region. The historical name of this spot is Velukkudi.
The festivals of this shrine are Margazhi Tiruvadhirai in December-January, Vinayaka Chaturthi, Vaikasi Visakam in May-June, Vaikasi Thiruvadhirai in May-June, Aipasi Annabishekam in October-November, Margazhi Tiruvadirai in December-January, Mondays of Karthikai Tamil month covering November-December, Purattasi Navarathri in September-October, Thai Poosam in January-February, Maha Shivrathri in February-March and all Lord Shiva related festivals are grandly celebrated with devotional and dedicational significance.
In this temple, Lord Shiva is a swayambumurthy. The shrine is open for all the Hindus from 6.00 a.m. to 12.00 a.m. and from 4.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m. Special pujas and rituals are performed on the eve of Shivarathri and all Lord Shiva related auspicious days. Devotees and pilgrims throng in large number on all the religious important days with religious spirit.
There are good road that leads to this village from the city head quarter and other nearby towns. There are good number of local bus services and taxi service to this village in order to meet the needs of the devotees. The head priest is in-charge of all the activities and functions of this shrine.
