Pushya maas or Paushya month is the 10th month as per traditional Kannada calendar followed in Karnataka. Pushya Maas 2009-2010 starts on December 17, 2009 and ends on January 15, 2010. As per Bengali, Telugu, Marathi and Gujarati calendars also, Pushya maas 2009-2010 starts on December 17, 2009. Pusha maas is considered as inauspicious month as per Hindu astrology. But it has a great significance for spiritual practice and observance of vrata.
- Pushya Krishna Paksha begins on December 17, 2009 and ends on December 31, 2009
- Pushya Shukla Paksha begins on January 1, 2010 and ends on January 15, 2010.
The major festivals during Paushya masam in Kannada calendar are – Mukkoti Ekadashi, Mukkoti Dwadashi, Bhogi and Sankranthi or Makara Sankranti. One of the other major celebrations in Karnataka during Paush month is Banashankari Navaratri in Badami Banashankari temple which starts on December 25, 2009 and ends on December 31, 2009. Pakshika Chandra Grahana will take place on December 31, 2009 and also continues till early morning on January 1, 2010.
