Lunar Eclipse, Chandra Grahan of 16 / 17 September 2016 is Penumbral Lunar Eclipse (Prachaya Chandra Grahanam). But in India, time of Chandra Grahan is from night, late night to early morning on 17 September. It will be visible as Tejoheena Kanthi Chandra (Less bright Moon / Dim Moon).

The Penumbral lunar eclipse of 16th September 2016 falls on Bhadrapada Purnima, the Full Moon day in Bhadrapada Month, as per Hindu calendars.

This Lunar eclipse occurs in Purvabhadra Nakshatra of Kumbha Rashi and Meena Rashi. It will be visible over Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia and Pacific regions. This Penumbral eclipse will not be visible in United States of America, Canada, Brazil and other South American countries.

It is also celebrated as Umamaheshwara Vratham. It is to note that Chandra Grahan occurs only on Punrima (Full Moon day).

According to sources, the visibility of the eclipse in India is not so clear.

Penumbral Lunar Eclipse ends at – 2.24 AM – Visible – Grahan Antya Kaal (Prachchaya Chandra Grahan)
