Sri Chidambareswarar temple is located in the small village named Kulasekarapattinam, in the district of Thoothukudi, in the state of Tamil Nadu in Southern India. The main deity of this temple is Chidambareswarar (Lord Shiva) and his consort is none.
The holy tree of this temple is Vilwa. The holy water of this temple is Changu theertham. The agamam or pooja of this temple is known as Karana Agama. This temple is just 1000-2000 years old in this region. The historical name of this place is Kulasekarapattinam.
The important festivals of this particular temple are Navarathri in September-October; Vaikasi Visakam in May-June; Chithirai festival on Chitra star day in April-May; Skanda Sashti in October-November; Arudra Darshan on Sadayam Star day ( 3 festivals) in December-January, Nama Shivaya Panchakshara Mantra initiation and Margazhi Sashti, plus New Year Days, Deepavalli and Pongal are celebrated in the temple.
The temple is open for all the Hindus from 6.00 a.m. to 10.00 a.m. and from 6.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m. It is one of the most sought after temple in this region. Among the local residents, this shrine is known as wish fulfiller temple and thanks giving offering is done wholeheartedly by the devotees and pilgrims. Special pujas and rituals are conducted on the eve of Shivarathri and other festival occasion and events related to Lord Shiva. Huge crowd of people throng this temple for various reasons related prayers and worship. The village is far away from the city but easy access is available through roadways.
