Hindu Year Names, 60 Years names in Hinduism

Here are the Hindu Year names. In Hindu Astrology, there are 60 years or Samvatsaras. The Hindu calendar cycle begins with Prabhava samvatsaram and ends with Akshaya.

2018-2019 is Vilambi nama samvatsara and 2019-2020 is Vikari Nama samvatsaram.

Ugadi / Gudi Padwa / Pratipada in Chaitra month is the beginning of New Year in Hindu chandramana Panchangams and the first day of Mesha Masam (Puthandu in Tamil Nadu and Pohela Boishakh in Bengal) marks the New Year Day for Hindu solar calendars.

This astrological system also follows the concept of leap year. Every 4th year will have 366 days and the rest only 365 days. Here is the list of Hindu Years…

    Hello Hindupad,
Its very nice to read and to know the various names of the Hindu years it would be more better if in brackets the names should also be written in Hindi. Coz it becomes very difficult to pronounce those words in English. Otherwise all are very good articles

    Regards

since this article was written in 2010-11 era it should be probably better to make it more generic to cover from 1947(Bharat’s swadheenta) till 2067. Will give an idea of the repetition every 60 years of the same names. People who live beyond 60 yrs will have experienced two times the same year! can they actually remember whether the events 60y back were similar! rarely, unless someone has maintained a blog for 60 years
amazing how human memory cheats us from important aspects of life. This site gave names of years from 1900 but characteristics are not shown! very very thankful to your efforts
    namaste
