Ganesh Jayanti is the birthday or Jayanthi of Lord Ganesha observed on Magha Shukla Paksha Chaturthi, the fourth day in the month of Magha especially in Maharashtra, some parts of Karnataka and Goa. In 2024, Maghi Ganesh Jayanti date is February 13, Tuesday.
It is observed as a grand event in all Ganesh temples in Maharashtra and households as well.
Palkhi Yatra is celebrated on Ganesh Jayanti in Morgaon Ganesha Temple (Mayureshwar Mandir / Shri Moreshwar Mandir) in Pune district of Maharashtra.
Lord Ganesh is worshipped with Shodashopachar puja and offered special recipes as naivedya. Special recipes are prepared with Til or sesame. Hence the festival is also known as Til Kund Chaturthi or Tila Kunda Chavithi. The popular Ganesh Chaturthi or Vinayaka Chavithi is celebrated in Bhadrapad month (August – September).

Ganesh Jayanti also known as Maghi Ganeshotsav is an auspicious day dedicated to Lord Ganesha in the Hindu calendar month of Magh which falls in Gregorian calendar month of January and February. It is basically a Vinayak Chaturthi falling in the month of Magh. The day is observed on the fourth day (Chaturthi) during the waxing phase of moon (Shukla Paksha) in Magh month. In 2014, Ganesh Jayanti or Maghi Ganpati will be celebrated on 3rd February 2014. The day is believed to be the birthday of Lord Ganesh in Maharashtra, parts of Karnataka and Goa. Maghi Ganpati Puja Process : On this day devotees worship Lord Ganesha. An image of Ganesha is made from Turmeric powder or Sindhoor powder and it is worshipped. The idol is offered special naivedya. Food prepared from Til (sesame) is consumed on the day. Hence this day is also known as Til Kund Chaturthi.
