Diwali 2009 Celebrations in Australia – Filling the cultural gap between India and Australia

Diwali, the festival of lights, is now in a mode to settle the cultural wavelength of two developing countries – Australia and India. The recent so-called racial attacks on Indian students have pushed the relationship of the countries into a deep well. To bring the cultural values back and to set the worthy relationship, the Western suburb of Footscray in Victoria will celebrate Diwali in a very big way.
Press Trust of India reports:

In an attempt to defuse tensions created by a spate of racial attacks on Indian students in Australia, the western suburb of Footscray in Victoria will organise Diwali in a big way to integrate the two communities culturally.

Stating that there was a need to integrate the two sides culturally, the MP from Footscray suburb Marsha Thomson said proactive efforts were being made by the government by launching subtle campaigns like celebrating Diwali which is being organised in October in a big way. Diwali will be celebrated in Footscary on October 3rd in a bid to ease the prevailing strain over the relationship between Indian and Australian students following the recent violent incidents, she added.
