Chandra Grahan or Lunar Eclipse which will start on December 31, 2009 and end in the early morning on January 1, 2010 take place as a Partial lunar eclipse or Pakshik Chandra Grahan. It is visible in Asia, Australia, Europe and Africa. Though, it will not be visible with naked eye, we can watch it taking proper precaution. This Chandra Grahan of December 31 is the fourth Chandra Grahan in the year 2009.
Chandragrahan time – Timings of Chandra Grahan on December 31 in 2009:
Pakshik Chandra Grahan (Partial lunar eclipse) will start at 18:51:38 UT and end at 19:53:51 UT. We can see the greatest eclipse (Maha Grahan kaal) for a moment at 19:22:41 UT. As per the Indian timings Chandra Grahan will begin at 22:45 hrs in the night of December 31, 2009 and end at 3:00 hrs in the early morning on January 1, 2010.
In which countries the Chandra Grahan will be visible on December 31 in 2009?
The map given here predicts the position of Moon at the maximum eclipse time. The darkened areas like India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Dubai, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, China, Malaysia, Singapore and Philippines can see partial eclipse in a better way. Chandra Grahan will be visible for few moments in some other Asian countries, Russia, Europe and Australia. The beginning of the Chandra Grahan will be visible in pink colored areas and blue colored areas will see ending of the Grahan.

Lunar Eclipse of December 31, 2009, will not be visible in United States of America. If you want timings, you can calculate it corresponding to IST (Indian Standard Time) or UT (Universal Time) mentioned in this article….
