Lord Ayyappa Sabarimala
Ayyappa Deeksha or Ayyappa Mala dharana is the most auspicious spiritual practice observed in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala during the winter season.
Ayyappa Deeksha 2023 dates – Ayyappa Deeksha begins on Mandala Puja day (16 November 2023 and ends on Makaravilakku day (14 January 2024).
From November 16, 2023: Mandala Kalam begins (Sabarimala Ayyappa 41-days Deeksha). Sannidhanam remains open from November 16.
December 2023 Puja at Sabarimala Temple
Temple remains open on all days till the night on December 27, 2023.
December 27, 2023 – Mandala Puja
December 27, 2022 night – Temple closes
December 30, 2023 – Temple opens for Makaravilakku Puja.
Sabarimala in January 2024
January 14, 2024 – Makaravilakku Puja
Temple remains open on all days till January 20, 2024.
Ayyappa Deeksha is widely observed in Kartika masam (October – November) as per Telugu and Kannada calendars. Kartik Shuukla Padyami, the first day of Kartika masam, is the best and auspicious day to take Ayyappa Deeksha. It falls on November 14, 2023.
Generally, Ayyappa Deeksha duration is 41 days. It is referred as Mandala Deeksha. The Diksha begins at least 41 days before Makar Sankranthi when Makara Jyothi is appeared in Sabarimala. Makara Sankranthi 2024 date is January 14th.
Some devotees also observe 81 days of Deeksha and more devotees take 116 days of Ayyappa diksha starting from Dasara day. Nowadays, some devotees also observe 21 days of Deeksha and culminate Ayyappa mala before Sankranthi. They break their Deeksha in local temples. It is suggested to confirm the dates to start Deeksha from local Brahmins or priests or Guruswami.

You can but, it is extreme summer and you’ll get dehydrated by climbing the hill and the hill is around 6-8 kms from Pamba Ganapathi Temple to Sanidanam (Abode of Ayyappa). In these months temple opens only twice or thrice a month. best season is Karthik Mas (November). As Ayyappa will also be on diksha in forest during this month and returns to Abode on November last week (ex: Nov 26/27). The temple opens on Nov 26 or Nov 27 and will opened till Jan 20.

You can take Ardha Mandala Deeksha (21 days) at Bollaram Ayyappa Swamy Temple. You can contact the temple authorities for more info.

Swamulu In Ayyappa Deeksha only available 41 days Mandala Kalam Deeksha, Ardha maala, 3 days and 5 days deeksha is not there Please understand the Ayyappa Maala Niyamavali.
