Amavasya or No Moon day in October 2023 is known as Bhadrapada Amavasya in Telugu, Kannada, Marathi & Gujarati calendars. As per North Indian Hindu calendars, it is Ashwin Amavasya. In October 2023, Amavasya date is October 14.

Bhadrapad Amavasya is the last day in Bhadrapada Month as per some calendars mentioned above. It is observed with lot of gusto in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Gujarat. Amavasya Tarpan is observed along the banks of holy rivers.

In North India, this Amavasya marks the end of Krishna Paksha in Ashwin Month. Pinda daan and Amavasya Tarpan are performed during the auspicious day and pitru karma are observed to please the dead ancestors’ souls.
