6 October 2011 is Dussehra festival. Dussehra, also known as Vijayadashami, marks the end of Durga Puja and Navratri celebrations. Shami Puja, Aparajita Puja, Vahana Puja, Ayudha Puja and Durga Visarjan are the major rituals for Dussehra festival.

Dussehra marks the victory of Lord Sri Rama over Ravanasura in Ramayana war. It also celebrates the victory of Pandavas over Kauravas in Mahabharata war. Though, some variations are there in legends, the rituals of the festivals are similar in all places.

Simollanghan is celebrated in the evening time on Vijaya dashami in Maharashtra. Ramlila ends on this day in North India.

Ravanasura vadha, a celebration of burning huge effigies of demon Ravan, is a grand event in many places of India on Dussehra.
