4 March 2012, Ekadasi Vrat

Today, 4 March 2012 is Ekadasi vrat. It is Amalaki Ekadasi, Rangbhari Ekadasi or Amla Ekadasi. It falls in Krishna Paksha of Phalgun Month. Ekadasi begins at 10.29 PM on 3 March and ends at 10.30 PM on 4 March.

In Varanasi, Mathura Vrindavan and some other parts of Uttar Pradesh and North India, this Ekadasi is celebrated as Rang Bhari Ekadashi. It marks the beginning of Holi festival in some parts of North India.

Amalaki Tree (Indian Gooseberry tree) is worshipped on Amlaki Ekadasi day. Amalaki Ekadasi Vrat Katha (Story of Amla Ekadashi) is associated with King Chitraratha.
