Saraswati – Goddess of Learning: Vasant Panchami Celebrations in Basar – Shri Panchami in Basara Gnana Saraswati Temple: On this day, in Basar temple, ‘Aksharabhyasam or ‘vidya Praasana or ‘Vidhyarambham’ is done for children who are at the age of 3 – 5 years. Vasant Panchami, also spelt as Basant Panchami, or Saraswati Puja is a festival that represents the arrival of Vasant Ritu (Spring Season). On this day, Mata Saraswati is worshipped. Vasant Panchami 2011 date is February 8, 2011. Saraswati Puja or Vasant Panchami 2010 date was January 20. It is celebrated on the fifth day of the month Magh (Magha masa Shukla Panchami). Vasanta Panchami is also called as ‘Shree Panchami or ‘Saraswati Panchami.
