Vishukani Darshan is the first sighting on Vishu festival and is considered very important. In 2016, Vishu festival date is April 14. Most of the temples will be opened for Vishnukani darshan at very early in the morning and will be continued till late night.
Vishukani consists of a ritual arrangement of auspicious items like raw rice, fresh lemon, golden cucumber, betel leaves, areca nut, metal mirror, yellow flowers, and a holy text and coins, placed in a bell metal vessel called an uruli in the puja room of the house or in the temple. Vishu sadhya (food) for the children constitutes a major part of Vishu festival celebration.
In Guruvayur Sri Krishna Temple, Vishukani darsanam begins at 2.30 AM on April 14, 2016. Vishukani will be arranged at Mukhamandapam of the Sreekalam.
In Ayyappan Guruvayur Temple in Mahalingapuram, Chennai, Vishnukani begins at 4 AM on 14 April, 2016. Karpoora Jyothi Darshanam will be held at 6.45 pm. Pushpabishekam for Lord Ayyapan will be held at 9 pm.
