Vikram Samvat 2070 is the Hindu Year 2013-2014. It begins on Chaitra Shukla Pratipada, the first day of Shukla Paksha in Chaitra Month as per North Indian Hindi calendars. It ends on the day of Chaitra Amavasya in Hindi calendars.
As per Gujarati calendar, Vikram Samvat New Hindu year begins on Kartik Shukla Pratipada (Kartik Sud 1), the following day of Diwali festival.
Vikram Samvat, Vikram Samwat, Vikram Sambt, Bikram Samvat, Bikram Samwat, Bikram Sambat or Vikram’s Era (V.S or B.S in abbreviations), is the calendar established by Raja Vikramaditya. The Vikram Calendar is mainly used in North India (except Maharashtra, Bengal, Odisha, Assam and all other North Eastern states).
Bikram Sambat Panchang is the official calendar followed in Nepal. In Nepal, the Bikram Sambat calendar begins with Baishakh Month and ends with Chaitra Month.
Vasant Navratri begins on the first day of Vikram Samvat calendar year. It also marks Ugadi (Telugu & Kannada New Year day), Gudi Padwa (Marathi New Year day), Samvatsar Padvo (Konkain New Year day).
In India, the reformulated Saka Calendar is officially used, although in the Hindi version of Preamble of The Constitution of India, the date of adoption of constitution 26 Nov 1949 is presented in Vikram Samvat (Margsheersh Shukla Saptami Samvat 2006). There have been calls for Vikram Samvat to replace Saka as India’s official calendar.
