Vasant Panchami, Basant Panchami (Shri Panchami or Saraswati Panchami) is the most auspicious day to perform Saraswati Puja. Vasant Panchami 2012 date is January 28. It is celebrated with lot of gusto in Bengal. This festival falls on the fifth day in Shukla paksha (bright half) of Magh month.

All Saraswati temples are decked with attractive decorations and devotees offer special pujas to Goddess Saraswati on Vasant Panchami. Aksharabhyasam or Vidyarambham (initiation of education to children) is the famous ritual of Basant Panchami.

Basara Saraswati temple in Andhra Pradesh, Kollur Mookambika temple and Sringeri Sarada Peetha temple in Karnataka are the most popular holy places to visit on Vasanta Panchami.
