Vaikunth Chaturdasi, 9 November 2011

Today, 9 November 2011 is Vaikunth Chaturdasi. It falls on Shukla Paksha Chaturdasi in Karthik Month as per all lunar Hindu calendars. This is a festival to worship Lord Shiva and Vishnu. As per the legend, Lord Vishnu visited Varanasi and performed puja to Lord Shiva with 1000 flowers. This festival marks the Oneness in Hinduism.

Devotees visit Vishnu temples and Shiva temples on this day. Some staunch devotees observe fasting and offer special abhishekam to the Lord.

Pradosha kaal Shiva Puja, performing puja to Lord Shiva with bilva leaves, and deepdan (donating deepa or diyas) are some meritorious deeds for Vaikunth Chaturdasi.
