Vaikunta Ekadasi is observed on Ekadasi in Shukla Paksha of Dhanurmasam as per the Vaishnava sampradaya followed in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
In 2016, there is no Vaikunta Ekadasi as there is no Shukla Paksha Ekadasi of Dhanurmasam in this year.
Vaikunta Ekadasi has great significance for Vaishnava sect of Hindus who consider it as a highly meritorious day to perform Vishnu Puja. All the Vishnu temples allow devotees to enter and visit the Lord from Vaikunta Dwara (Uttara Dwara – Northern entrance).
Vaikunta Ekadasi is also referred to as Mukkoti Ekadasi in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu; and Swargavathil Ekadasi in Kerala.
