Sri Vadaranyeswarar temple is located in the village named Tiruvalangadu, in the district of Thiruvallu, in the state of Tamil Nadu in South India. The main deities of this temple are Vadaranyeswarar and Thevar Singha Peruman (Lord Shiva) and his consort is Vandarkuzhali.
The holy tree of this temple is Jack. The holy water of this temple is Krupa Theertham. The agamam or pooja of this temple is known as Muthi. This temple is nearly 1000-2000 years old in this region. The historical name of this place is none.
According to the local pundits and legends, “Saints Sambandar, Tirunavikkarasar and Sundar had praised the Lord of the temple in their celebrated Thevaram hymns. This is the 15th temple in Thondai region in Thevaram hymns.” This temple is thronged by devotees and pilgrims on festivals such as Margazhi Tiruvadhirai, Shivarathri, Navarathri, Amavasya, Vaikunta Ekadashi, Purnima, New Year day, Deepavalli, Pongal and all other Shiva related asuspicious days and festivals are devotionally celebrated in this temple.
In this shrine, Lord Shiva graces as a swayambumurthy for the devotees and pilgrims. It is to be highly noted that among the five celebrated dance fame shrines of Lord Shiva, this particular temple is largely known as Gem Sabha – Rathna Sabha. According to the local legends, it is in this temple that Lord addressed his devotee named Karaikal Ammayar who was later known as “Ammaye”. It is to be remembered she came to winess the dance on head as walking and visit the lord was considered as sin by her.
