Koil Alwar Thirumanjanam is performed on 26 December 2017 for Vaikunta Ekadashi at the hill temple of Lord Venkateswara amidst religious fervour in connection with the Ekadashi as a prelude scheduled for 29 December 2017.
Koil Alwar means ‘Holy Shrine’. The main purpose of performing koil Tirumanjanam is purification of sanctum santorum and temple premises. During the cermony all the murtis and other articles are removed from santum santorum and the mula murti is covered with water- proof covering. The entire garbhagriham, including floors, ceilings and walls are then cleaned and brushed well eith plenty of water. The whole place is then smeared with kumkum, camphor, sandal paste, saffron, turmeric etc. as disinfectant. the covering of the main deity is then removed and the deities, deepam and other articles are replaced inside. Purificatory pujas and Naivedyams are the offered to the deity.
This ceremony performed strictly as per the agamas is conducted four times in a year i.e before Ugadi, before Anivara Asthanam, before Vaikunta Eakadasi, before Annual Brahmotsavam.
TTD Board officials and employees took part in the mass cleansing temple festival which is lasted from 6 am to 10 am.
Later the sarva dashan assumed for pilgrims after 11am. While the cleansing process is underway, the statues including the moolvirat of Lord Venkateswara, Yoganarasimha Swamy, Varadaraja Swamy etc. are completely closed with white cloth. After the Koil Alwar Tirumanjanam
