Today, 13 January 2012 is Thyagaraja Aradhana in Thiruvaiyaru near Thanjavur in Tamil Nadu. It is a humble tribute to Thyagaraja Swamy, the Saint-Poet of 19th Century. He composed thousands of krithis and keerthanas praising Lord Sri Rama. Thyagaraja Aradhana is a commemorative music festival held during Thyagaraja Swamy’s Vardhanthi (samaradhana) utsavams.
Thyagaraja Aradhana Pancharatna Krithis is conducted on Pushya Bahula Panchami, fifth day in dark fortnight of Pushya Masam as per Telugu calendar.
Pancharatna Krithis or singing five popular songs composed by Thyagaraja swamigal is the important and the most venerated event in entire Thyagaraja Aradhana utsavams.
The Thyagaraja Pancharatna Krithis are:
- Jagadananda Karaka – Ragam Naata
- Dudukugala – Ragam Goula
- Sadhinchane – Ragam Aarabhi
- Kanakana Ruchira – Ragam Varaali
- Endaro Mahanubhavulu – Sri Ragam
Apart from Thiruvaiyaru Thyagaraja Aradhana, Thyagaraja Aradhana in Mumbai, Chennayil Tiruvayyaru and Cleveland Thyagaraja Aradhana are other popular commemorative musical events held to pay tribute to the legendary saint-poet.
Thyagaraja Aradhana is also conducted at various places including Vemulawada, Hyderabad, Tirumala Tirupati and Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh.
