Chaitra month or Chaitra masam is the first month in Telugu calendar or Telugu Hindu Panchangam. In Telugu Panchangam for Andhra Pradesh, Chiatra masam 2013 starts on April 11 and ends on May 9.
Chaitra month falls in March-April as per Gregorian calendar. Similar dates are applicable to Marathi, Gujarati, and Kannada Panchanga. In 2013, Chaitra masam marks the beginning of Sri Vijaya nama samvatsaram.
According to Hinduism, on the first day of Chaitra month Lord Brahma started the creation. Ugadi or Telugu New Year begins on the first day of Chaitra month in Karnataka. This festival is also celebrated as Kannada New Year and Marathi New Year (Gudhi Padva). It marks the onset of spring season or Vasanta ruthuvu.
Telugu Chaitra masa Shukla Paksham begins on April 11 and ends on April 25.
Telugu Chaitra masa Krishna Paksham starts on April 26 and ends on May 9.
