Shakambari Jayanti 2009 – Shakambari Jayanthi or last day of Shakambari Navaratri

Shakambari Jayanti or Sakambari Jayanthi is the birthday of Goddess Shakambari especially observed in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. In 2009, Shakambari Jayanti date is December 31. Shakambari Devi is the Goddess who wears vegetables and green leaves as her dress or clothes and gives green leafy food and fruits to the world. Shakambari Jayanthi is a grand festival celebrated at Shakambaripuram Sakambari temple in Chennai.

The major festival dedicated to Goddess Shakambari is Shakambari Navratras, also known as Paush Navaratri, which is observed from the eighth day of Poush month (Paush Shukla Ashtami) to the Full Moon day of Poush masam (Paush Purnima). Shakambari Navratri is a nine-day Navaratri festival during which Goddess Shakambari Devi is worshipped. In 2009, Shakambari Navratri starts on December 25 and ends on December 31. Shakambari Navratri is observed during Paush month (begins on Paush Ashtami and ends on Paush Purnima day). The first day of Navratri is known as Shakambari Ashtami and the concluding day is Shakambari Purnima or Shakambari Jayanti.

Shakambari Navratri is mainly celebrated in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Karnataka states. In Badami Banashankari temple in Karnataka, Banadashtami is the opening day of Banashankari Navratri. This 9-day festival is celebrated in a grand manner in Chennai Shakambari Puram Shakambari Maa temple.

Ashada Navaratri, the nine-day festival dedicated to Goddess Bhadrakali in Hanamkonda Bhadrakali temple, is known as Shakambari Utsavalu. In Vijayawada Kanaka Durga temple, a three-day Shakambari utsavalu are held during Ashada masam. Shakambari Utsavam or festivities dedicated to Shakambari Devi are also observed in Hyderabad Peddamma Thalli temple.

It is to note that there will be the Pakshik Chandra Grahan or partial solar eclipse on the last day of Shakambari Navratri (Poush Purnima), December 31st, 2009.

Shakambari Purnima – Paush Poornima dedicated to Goddess Shakambari

Shakambari Purnima is observed on Paush Purnima, the Full Moon day in Poush month. In 2009, Shakambari Purnima date is December 31. It is mainly observed in states like Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka where Paush Navratri or Shakambari Navaratri is celebrated. At Badami Banashankari Temple in Karnataka, Nagewadi, Maharashtra, Kumbhoj near Satara, Sharanpur in Uttar Pradesh and Sambhar in Rajasthan, Shakambari Purnima is celebrated with lot of gusto.

In Badami temple, Shakambari Devi is worshipped in the form of Banashankari Devi. Banadashtami or Banada Ashtami is the major festival celebrated in Badami temple during Banashankari Navaratri.

Shakambari Navratri or Paush Navaratri begins on Paush Ashtami and ends on Paush Purnima day which is also called as Shakambari Poornima.

Navratri 2010 – Navaratri dates in 2010

Navratri is nine-festive days dedicated to Goddess Durga. Navratri is observed for four times in a year. Magh Navratri and Ashad Navratri are called as Gupt Navratri. Ashad Navratri is also known as Guhya Navratri during which Goddess Varahi (Ashtamatrika devata) is worshipped in Himachal Pradesh. Magh Navaratri 2010 dates are Janaury 16 to January 24. Chaitra Navaratri or Vasant Navratri 2010 dates – Navaratri starts on March 16 and ends on March 24.

Ashad Navratri 2010 starts on July 12 and ends on July 19. Sharad Navratri or Durga Navratri, also known as Ashwin Navratri, in 2010 starts on October 8 and ends on 17 October.

Paush Navratri, also spelt as Poush Navratras, is a nine-day festival celebrated from first day to ninth day during Paush month or Pushya masam. In 2009, Paush Navratri starts on December 25 and ends on December 31. This year, during Paush Navratri, Sindhu Pushkar are commenced. Pushya masa Navratras are also called as Shakambari Navratri in some areas. In Shakambari mata temples, Navratri utsav is celebrated with lot of gusto during Poush month.

Paush Navratri is celebrated in Shakambari temples located in Badami, Bangalore in Karnataka, in Nagewadi, Maharashtra, Kumbhoj near Satara, Sharanpur in Uttar Pradesh and Sambhar in Rajasthan.

In Badami Banashankari devi temple in Karnataka, Banashankari Jatra is celebrated during Shakambari Navaratri. Banadashtami or Banada Astami festival is also celebrated during Shakambari Navaratri in Badami region.

Paush Navratri is not much popular festive season dedicated to Goddess Durga. The famous Navratri are – Chaitra Navratri and Sharad Navratri. Gupt Navratri are Magh Navratras and Ashada Navaratras.
