Nagula Chavithi 2010 – Nagula Chavithi Festival in Kartika Masam

Nagula Chavithi is an auspicious day to observe Naga Puja. Nagula Chavithi is observed on the fourth day after Deepavali Amavasya during Kartika masam. Nagula Chavithi 2010 date is 9th November. Nag Panchami and Nagasashti are observed after Naga Chaturthi. The dates to observe Naga Panchami is November 10 and Naga Sashti is on November 11. Naga Chaturthi is also celebrated in Shravan month, just the day before Naga Panchami.

Nagula Chavithi Pooja:

Nagula Chavithi, a festival to worship Nag Devatas (Serpent Gods), is mainly a women festival. Nagula Chavithi is observed by married women for their wellbeing of their children. During the Chavithi festival, women keep fast and observe Naga Puja. Devotees offer milk and dry fruits to Sarpa Devata at the Valmeekam or Putta (snake pits). On Nag Chaturthi day, Ashtanag (seven hooded cobra) is worshipped.

Nagula Chavithi in Kartika masam is a major festival in Andhra Pradesh and some parts of Karnataka. The rituals and puja procedures are different from place to place. Some people place Naga devatha idol at home and perform puja. But in some places, devotees go to ‘Putta’ (Snake pit) and offer naivedyam and perform other pujas there.

Nag Chaturthi – Nagula Chavithi 2009

Nag Chaturthi or Nagula Chavithi is an auspicious day to observe Naga Puja. Nagula Chavithi is observed on the fourth day after Diwali Amavasya during Kartik month. In 2009, the date to observe Nagula Chavithi or Naga Chaturthi is October 22, Thursday. Nag Panchami and Nagasashti are observed after Naga Chaturthi. The dates to observe Naga Panchami is October 23, Friday and Naga Sashti is on October 24, Saturday. Naga Chaturthi is also celebrated in Shravan month, just the day before Naga Panchami. In 2009, the date of Naga Chaturthi in Shravan month is July 25, Saturday.

Important Festivals in Vaisakha Masam – Auspicious Days of Vaisakha Month in April 2009

Vaisakha masam is considered as the supreme among the three most auspicious months. The other two months are Kartika and Magha. Vaisakha mas is the most favourite month for Lord Vishnu. Vaishakha month is also considered auspicious because in this month, four avataras of Lord Vishnu were incarnated – Parashuram Jayanti, Balarama Jayanti, Narasimha Jayanti and Kurma Jayanti and also Buddha Jayanti. In 2009, Vaisakha month starts on April 26, Sunday and ends on May 24, Sunday.

Vaisakha Shudda Padyami – Narasimha Chandanotsav in Simhachalam and Parasara Jayanti:
On Vaisakha shudda Padyami day, Chandanotsavam is celebrated in Simhachalam (Andhra Pradesh) Sri Lakshmi Varaha Narasimha Swamy. Those who offer chandanam (sandalwood powder) to Lord Vishnu on this day can get rid of Kalachakra and liberation from sorrows. On Vaisakha Padyami day, Sri Simhachala Lakshmi Varaha Narasimha Swamy is offered chandan. Old chandan is removed and new chandan layer is applied on Narasimha swamy’s presiding idol.

In 2009, Chandanotsavam in Simhachala Sri Lakshmi Varaha Narasimha Swamy temple and Parasara Jayanti fall on April 26, Sunday.

Vaisakha Shudda Tadiya – Akshay Tritiya, Parashuram Jayanti and Balaram Jayanti:
Vaisakha Shudda Tadiya or Tritiya is considered as the most auspicious day. Ganga Snan or Punya Snan in any holy river, Yagnas and homas will cleanse every sin of the performer. This day is also celebrated as Lord Parashuram Jayanti and Lord Balaram Jayanti.

In 2009, Akshay Tritiya, Parashuram Jayanti and Balaram jayanti are celebrated on April 27, Monday.

Nagula Chavithi is one of the regional festivals of Andhra Pradesh. It is celebrated on the fourth day after Deepavali. Nagula Chavithi falls in the month – Kartik. On this day, devotees worship Naga Devata (Serpent God).
