Kokila Vrata – Kokila Devi Vratam in Ashadh Maas

Kokila Vrata is an observance dedicated to Kokila Devi, the wife of King Drupada. Kokila Vratam is observed by young unmarried women to get good and handsome husband. This Vratam is also performed by young men for a beautiful and good wife.Kokila Vratam is a one of the main vratas to observe in Ashadh maas. In 2009, the date of Kokila Vrata is July 6, Monday.

Kokila Vrata is a ritual performed in South India, especially in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. Kokila Vrata is also observed in Maharashtra and Gujarat and some more Northern states of India.

To perform or observe Kokila Vrat, the performer should wake up early in the morning and complete ritual bath. Ritual bath in any Sea or river is highly auspicious on this day of Kokila Vrat. Devotees make an idol of Kokila (nightingale or cuckoo) and worship it. Observing the vrat for a month is highly meritorious.

Taking a holy dip (ritual bath) in Sindhu (Indus) river on the day of Kokila vratam is highly auspicious and meritorious.
