Brahmotsavam at Kalyana Venkateshwara Swamy Temple Hyderabad

Kalyana Venkateshwara Swamy Temple annual Brahmotsavam was held from 17th January to 22nd January 2010. The 6-day celebrations of Brahmotsavam 2010 were the 17th annual bramhotsavam function. The celebrations have attracted a large number of devotees from all around Hyderabad and surrounding districts. Chakrasnanam, Purnahuthi, dhwajaavarohana and ekanthaseva marked the conclusion of Brahmotsavam 2010.

Maha shanthi homam for Vishwa santhi (universal peace), Thulasipuja and suvarna pushpa archana, procession of the deities in the area, and Pravachan (discourse) by Jagadguru Sri Sankaracharya of Pushpagiri Peetham (Pushpagiri Peetadhipathi) featured the brahmotsavam festival.

Tirumala Tirupati Ardha Brahmotsavam 2010 – Ratha Saptami 2010 Timetable at Tirupati Balaji Temple

Ratha Saptami or Radhasaptami, also known as Surya Jayanti, is observed on Magha Shukla Saptami. At Tirumala Tirupati Balaji temple, Ratha Saptami festival is a grand event which attracts a large number of devotees. In 2010, Ratha Saptami date is January 22. Ratha Saptami celebrations at Tirumala Tirupati Balaji Temple are known as Ardha Brahmotsavam. During the festival, Lord Venkateshwara Swamy (Malayappa Swamy) along with his divine consorts Sridevi and Bhudevi are taken to a procession in Thiru Mada streets in Tirumala.

Ratha Saptami at Arasavalli Surya Narayana Swamy Temple in Andhra Pradesh

Ratha Saptami or Surya Jayanthi is the most important festival celebrated at Arasavalli Surya Narayana Swamy Temple, Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh. In 2010, Ratha Saptami date is Janaury 22. This festival marks the onset of spring season. In Arasavalli Temple, devotees will have Nija Rupa Darshanam of Surya Narayana swamy from 1’o clock in the early morning to 4’o clock in the evening. Ksheerabhishekam (offering bath to Sun God with milk), celebrated in the early morning, is the major event during Ratha Saptami which attracts a large number of devotees.

Surya Narayana Swamy or the Sun God is known as Pratyaksha Narayana. The presiding deity of Arasavalli Temple is the 5 feet black idol of Surya. Beside him, Surya Narayana Swamy has his consorts Padma, Usha and Chaaya consecrated. All these deities are stationed on a grand chariot (ratham) driven by seven horses. Dwarapalakas of the temple are Pingala and the Sanaka muni and Sananda muni.

Bhishma Dwadashi 2010 – Bheeshma Dvadasi

Bhishma Dwadashi or Bheeshma Dvadasi is observed on Magha Shukla Dwadashi, the day after Bhishma Ekadashi. Bhishma Dwadashi is an auspicious day during when devotees break their Bhishma Ekadasi vrat upvaas. Bhishma Dwadasi 2010 date is January 27. It is believed that Pandvas observed the final rituals and rites for Bhishma pithamaha who died on Bhishma Ashtami (Magh Shukla Ashtami).

Bhishma Dwadasi is the second auspicious day during Bhishma Panchak Vrat, observed from Bhishma Ekadashi to Magh Purnima. It is not only observed by Vishnu devotees but also by Shiva devotees. This festival is a grand occasion in ISKCON Temples, Vrindavan Krishna Temple, Banke Bihariji Temple and Lord Puri Jagannath Temple.
