Ananta Chaturdashi is observed on the fourteenth day during Bhadrapad month. In 2010, the date of Anant Chaturdasi, also known as Ananta Chaturthi, is September 22. Anant Chaturdashi is also known as the Visarjan day of Lord Ganesh. During Ganesh Navratri mahotsav, Lord Ganpati is worshipped for 10 days and on the day of Ananta Chaturthi Visarjan is performed.
Anant Chaturdasi – Dedicated to Lord Ananta Padmanabha:
On Anant Chaturdasi, Lord Ananta Padmanabha is worshipped and Ananta Vrat is observed. Anant Vrat is an observance which is followed for 14 consecutive years for marital bliss. This vow is observed by married couple.
Ganesh immersion or Ganapati Nimajjan, also known as Vianayaka Visarjan is the culmination day of 10-day Ganesh Chaturthi or Ganapati Navaratri celebrations. Usually, Ganesh immersion is held on Anant Chaturdashi day. Genrally Ganesh nimajjan is performed on the 3rd, 5th, 6th, 7th or the 10th day of Ganesh Navratri festival. As per tradition, Ganesh immersion is performed on Anant Chaturthi day, which is September 3 in 2009.
In some places, from the day of Ganesh Chaturthi festival, the Ganesha idols are also prepared for immersion. Due to terrorist activities and other security reasons, in 2009, Ganesh immersion throughout India will be performed under tight security of the armed forces. To make the festival more enthusiastic and keep the globe free of pollution, use clay or eco-friendly Ganesh idols. The Ganesha Thathwa (Philosophy of Ganesh worship) teaches the same. We use 21 types of herbal leaves and flowers during Ganesh Festival to worship Lord Ganesh.
