Ganesh Immersion 2009 – When to do Ganpati Visarjan in 2009?

Ganesh immersion or Ganapati Nimajjan, also known as Vianayaka Visarjan is the culmination day of 10-day Ganesh Chaturthi or Ganapati Navaratri celebrations.  Usually, Ganesh immersion is held on Anant Chaturdashi day. Generally Ganesh nimajjan is performed on the 3rd, 5th, 6th, 7th or the 10th day of Ganesh Navratri festival. As per tradition, Ganesh immersion is performed on Anant Chaturthi day, which is September 3 in 2009.

In Hyderabad, Ganesh nimajjanam date for 2009 Ganesh immersion is September 3 i.e. on Ananta Chaturdashi.

 There is no standard day or date for Ganesh nimajjan but some people perform Ganesh immersion as per their regional traditions. In 2009, the dates to do immersion or visarjan of Ganpati idols are:

 Ganpati Visarjan after one and half day – August 24, 2009

Ganesh immersion after three days – August 25, 2009

Ganesh Visarjan after five days – August 27, 2009

Ganesh nimajjan after seven days – August 29, 2009

Ganpati Visarjan after ten days – September 1, 2009

 Final day of immersion or last day to perform Ganesh visarjan is – Anant Chaturdashi – September 3, 2009

Ganesh Immersion or Nimajjan – Ganapati Visarjan

Ganesh immersion or Ganapati Nimajjan, also known as Vianayaka Visarjan is the culmination day of 10-day Ganesh Chaturthi or Ganapati Navaratri celebrations.  Usually, Ganesh immersion is held on Anant Chaturdashi day. In Andhra Pradesh especially Hyderabad, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam, in Maharashtra – Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur and Thane are the main cities where Ganesha nimajjan is celebrated with utmost festivity. Genrally Ganesh nimajjan is performed on the 3rd, 5th, 6th, 7th or the 10th day of Ganesh Navratri festival.

Procession during Ganesh Immersion:

 On the day of Ganesh Visarjan, a huge procession will take out in the cities like Mumbai, Pune and Hyderabad. Various cultural activites – singing, dancing and painting competitions are held during the Ganesh Navratri festival. The winners of the competitions get their prizes on the day of Ganesh immersion. In Hyderabad, Pune, Thane and Mumbai, Ganapati nimajjan is held under the tight security of the Police and several social organizations’ volunteers.

In Hyderabad, vinayak visarjan or Ganapati nimajjanam takes place at Tank Bund and Necklace Road on Hussain Sagar at some other lakes like Saroornagar and Shamirpet lakes in twin-cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad.
