Chaitra Maasam 2010 in Telugu Calendar – Chaitra Month 2010 dates in Telugu Panchangam

Chaitra month or Chaitra masam is the first month in Telugu calendar or Telugu Hindu Panchangam. Chaitra month falls in March – April as per Gregorian calendar. In Telugu Panchangam for Andhra Pradesh Chiatra masam 2010 will start on March 16 and end on April 14, 2010. Similar dates are applicable to Marathi, Gujarati, and Kannada Panchanga. In 2010, Chaitra masam marks the beginning of Vikrutinama samvatsaram.

According to Hinduism, on the first day of Chaitra month Lord Brahma started the creation. Ugadi or Telugu New Year begins on the first day of Chaitra month in Karnataka. This festival is also celebrated as Kannada New Year and Marathi New Year (Gudhi Padva). It marks the onset of spring season or Vasanta ruthuvu.

Telugu Chaitra masa Shukla Paksham begins on March 16 and ends on March 30, 2010.

Telugu Chaitra masa Krishna Paksham starts on March 31 and ends on April 14, 2010.

Ugadi Puja celebrations in Srisailam Bramarambika Mallikarjuna Temple

Ugadi or the Telugu New Year Day is celebrated with utmost fervor at Srisailam Bramarambika Mallikarjunaswamy Temple in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh. Ugadhi 2010 date is March 16. Ugadhi celebrations begin three days before Chaitra Shudda Padyami (the first day of Chaitra masam) and continue till the second day after Ugadhi (Chaitra Shukla Vidiya).

The temple festival also attracts lakhs of devotees from Karnataka, Maharashtra, and other North Indian states. Ugadi is also marks the beginning of Kannada New Year in Karnataka. Ugadi is celebrated as Gudhi Padwa or Marathi New Year in Maharashtra and Nav Varsh in Norht Indian states.

The important events during Srishailam Ugadi celebrations are Vahana sevas and Alankaras to Mallikarjuna Bramarambika, Veerachara Vinyasalu and Rathotsavam. Ganapati Puja marks the beginning of rituals followed by Punyahavachanam, Akhanda Sthapana, Mantaparadhana, and Ankurarpana. Rudrahomam and chandi homam are performed daily during Ugadi puja.

On the night before Ugadhi festival (Falguna Amavasya night) Ganacharis (a group of Kannada devotees) perform Agnigunda Pravesham. They walk on the blowing embers to express their devotion and dedication for Lord Shiva. Ganacharis also pierce their bodies with sharp needles and pointed weapons. All these rituals collectively called as Veerachara Vinyasalu.

Goddess Bramarambika Devi is worshipped in different alankarams – Mahalakshmi, Mahadurga, Maha Saraswati, Rajarajeshwari, and nijalankarana of Bhramaramba Devi. Brungi Vahanam, Nandi Vahanam, Kailasa vahanam, and Ravana Vahanam are major events in vahana sevas.

In the evening on Ugadi day Rathotsavam is held. This particular festivity attracts more than 4 lakh devotees every year.

Chaitra Month 2010 – Chaitra Masam or Chait Maas dates in 2010

Chaitra month or Chaitra masam or Chait Maas is the first month in Hindu calendar or Hindu Panchang. Chaitra month falls in March – April as per Gregorian calendar. Vasant Navratri or Basant Navratri – Navratras in Vasant Rithu

Vasant Navratri or Basant Navratri, also popular as Chaitra Navratras, is the nine-day festival observed in Chaitra month. Vasant Navratri 2010 dates are – from March 16 to March 24. Vasant Navratras starts on the first day in Chaitra month and ends on Sri Rama Navami, the ninth day of the month. The first day of Shukla Paksha in Chaitra month is celebrated as Ugadi or Yugadi. This is the Hindu New Year day as per the calendars of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra (Gudi Padwa). Basant Navratri is very popular festive season in North Indian states like Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, etc.

As per the legends mentioned in the Puranas and other Hindu scriptures, Vasant Navratri is the actual Navratri during which Goddess Durga was worshipped. But during the time of Ramayan war, Lord Sri Ram worshipped Durga at the time of Ashwayuja month. Since then, Ashwin Navratri or Saran Navratri has become the main festive season to worship the Goddess.

Vasant Navratri marks the beginning of Vasant rithu (spring season) hence it is also known Spring Navratri. It is also referred to as Sri Rama Navratras. Sri Ram Navratri ends on Ram Navami festival.
