Last and Final day or Vijaya Dashami during Navratri 2009 – Dedicated to Goddess Rajarajeshwari

Last and the final day of Durga Navratri is Vijaya Dashami or Dasara. In 2009, Vijaya Dashami day is on September 28th. Goddess Rajarajeshwari Devi is worshipped on this day. Mother Goddess is decorated and worshipped in the form or alankaram of Raja Rajeshwari Devi in South Indian temples especially Vijayawada Kanaka Durga temple.

Rajarajeshwari holds a noose in her   hand. The noose tells us about the power she has on the whole universe which she can control by her determination and love. The goad is the indication for power of knowledge. The sugarcane stem draws out the mind principle of man. The five flowered arrows (Pushpa Bana) indicate the five senses – sound, touch, form, taste and smell.

Goddess Rajarajeshwari has three manifestations or forms or aspects – Sthula Shareera (physical aspect), Sukshma Sharira (astral form) and archetypal form of the macrocosm and microcosmic creation.

Maha Navami or Ninth day of Navratri 2009 – Dedicated to Goddess Mahishasura Mardhini

Maha Navami or the ninth day of Durga Navratri is very important usually as it is the last day of Navratri. Mahishasura Mardhini is the fiercest form of the Goddess, who in which form she demolished Mahishasura. In 2009, Goddess Durga is decorated and worshipped as Mahishasura Mardhini on September 27th in most of the South Indian temples, especially in Vijayawada Kanaka Durga temple.

In Durga Saptashati, it is mentioned that Goddess Mahalakshmi with 18 arms (Astadasha bhujas) with all Devi& Devata Shaktis demolished Chamara and many demons and then Mahishasura. As the Goddess killed Mahisha on Navami day, it is known as Maharnavami.

Fifth day or Maha Panchami of Navaratri 2009 – Dedicated to Goddess Lalita

Fifth day, Maha Panchami or Lalita Panchami, during Durga Navaratri is dedicated to Goddess Lalitha Tripura Sundari Devi. In 2009, on 23rd September, Goddess Durga is decorated and worshipped in alankaram of Lalitha in South Indian temples, especially in Vijayawada Kanakadurga temple. In Maharashtra, on fifth day of Navratri, Goddess Upang Lalita is worshipped.

Goddess Skandamata is the fifth aspect of Navadurga, 9 forms of Mother Goddess. She is worshipped on this day. Lord Skanda or Kartikeya is worshipped on the next day, Muruga Sashti or Maha Shashti.
