Sri Ashta Bhairava in Main sub directions

The eight Bhairavar are Sri Asithaanga Bhairavar, Sri Ruru Bhairavar, Sri Chanda Bhairavar, Sri Krodha Bhairavar, Sri Unmatha Bhairavar, Sri Kapaala Bhairavar, Sri Bheeshana Bhairavar and Sri Samhaara Bhairavar that are mention in the Hindu religious history.

Among these eight Lords, four belong to other sub direction and the four Lords belong to the main direction South, North, East and West.

These four sub directions have social and religious significance among pilgrims and devotees. Each of these Lord have shrine that are greatly dedicated to them with special rituals and pujas conducted for the Lord.

  • Sri Ruru Bhairavar appears with His consort Maaheshwari and Vahana -Ox (Rishabam) and in the direction towards Southeast. The temples that are dedicated to this lord are at Rathnagiriswarar Temple at Thirumarugal in the state of Tamil Nadu. Nakshatram/ Birth Star related are Karthikai, Uthiradam and Uthiram. The stone related is Manickam (Ruby).
  • Sri Krodha Bhairavar appears with His consort Vaishnavi and Vaahana -Eagle (Garuda) and in the direction towards South-West. The temple that is dedicated to this lord is at Thiruvisanallur, in Thirunaraiyur in the state of Tamil Nadu. Nakshatram/ Birth Star related are Rohini, Astham and Tiruvonam. The stone related is Muthu (Pearl).
  • Sri Kapaala Bhairavar appears with His consort Indrani and Vahana -Elephant and in the direction towards North-West.  The temple that is dedicated to this lord is at Thiruvirkudi, in Thirupanthuruthi. Nakshatram/ Birth Star related to Barani, Pooram, and Puradam. The stone related is Vairam (Diamond).
  • Sri Samhaara Bhairavar appears with His consort none and Vahana- Dog and in the direction towards Northeast. The temple that is dedicated to this lord is at Thiruvenkadu, at Kolli Malai, in Vairavanpatti.  Nakshatram/ Birth Star related are Ayilyam, Ketai and Revathi.
