This vow is dedicated to the divine couples – Lord Shiva and Parvati, and Lord Vishnu and Mahalakshmi. Hindu women observe the vrata for their ‘Soubhagyam i.e. longevity of their husbands life and marital bliss.

Soubhagya Thadiya Vratam during Phaalgun month is observed mainly in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. In other parts of India, Soubhagya vrat is observed on Chaitra Shukla Tritiya as Gauri Tritiya or Gangaur vrat.
