Shravan Amavasya: Amavasya in Shravan Month

Shravan Amavasya is the No Moon day in Shravan month. Shravan Amavasya is observed as Pithori Amavasya in North India and Polala Amavasya in Andhra Pradesh. In 2016, Shravan Amavasya date is August 2 in North Indian Hindi calendars and where it is on September 1 as per Marathi, Kannada, Gujarati, and Telugu calendars. Pola or Bail Pola is celebrated on Shravan Amavasya in Maharashtra.

Devotees perform holy dip (punya snan) on Shravan Amavasya. Pitru Tharpan and Pinda daan are also performed by devotees on this day.
