Saraswati Puja is observed two times in a year as per different calendars followed in India. Basant Panchami which falls on Shukla Paksha Panchami in Magha Month is celebrated as Saraswati Puja. In 2013, Saraswati Puja date is February 14. Basant Panchami Kumbh Mela Snan date is February 15.
It is also referred to as Shri Panchami and Saraswati Panchami or Saraswati Jayanti as it is the first appearance day of Saraswati Devi, Goddess of education, learning and wisdom.
Basant Panchami is observed as Saraswati Puja in Bengal. In all other parts the name of the vrat/puja is Vasant Panchami.
Saraswati Puja is also observed during Navratri Durga Puja where the last three day of the Navratri is celebrated as Saraswati Avahan, Saraswati Puja and Saraswati Balidan or Udwasan.
