Purnima in August 2010 – Poornima or Full Moon Day in August 2010

Purnima or Poornima in August 2010 is Shravan Purnima or Sawan Poornima as per all lunar calendars followed in India. Purnima in August 2010 date is 24th August. Poornima starts at or after 8:10 hrs night on August 23 and ends at 10:34 pm on August 24th. Shravan Purnima is celebrated as Rakhi Purnima or Rakshabandhan all over India and abroad where Hindus live.
This Pournami marks the end of Shravan month in North Indian Hindi calendars. Bhadrapad Month begins on next day. In Marathi, Gujarati, Kannada and Telugu calendars, it marks the bright half of Shravan month and next day dark fortnight of Sawan starts.
Hayagriva Jayanthi is celebrated on this Full Moon. Purnima in August 2010 is celebrated as Kajri Purnima in North Indian states.
In Maharashtra and Goa Konkan regions, it is celebrated as Narali Purnima or Narial Poornima.
Yajur Upaakarma or Avani Avittam is observed in Tamil Nadu (Changing of sacred thread). It is also known as Jandhyala Purnima or Janivar Purnima in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.
August 2010 Purnima marks the culmination of Amarnath Yatra, Jhulan Yatra, and Shravani Mela in Deoghar Baba Baidyanath Dham.
The next Purnima comes in September 2010 is Bhadrapad Purnima.
