The Festival of Purification-Pavitrotsavams, which made its entry in the long list of annual rituals that are being observed in the famous shrine of Tirumala temple by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTDs) every year will be performed from 8 August 2022 to 10 August 2022 for three days with Ankurarpanam on 7 August 2022.
This annual festival will be observed on the important days of Ekadashi, Dwadashi and Trayodashi in the month of Sravana as per Hindu calendar. This festival was first instituted by Saluva Mallaiah Deva Raja in 1463 A.D. at Tirumala during the period of Saluva Narasimha as per the inscription 157 present on inner prakaram of Srivari Temple.
During these three days, Tirumanjanam and Homam are performed to the main deity and as well as primary idols of Lord Sri Venkateswara Swamy.
The significance of the festival is that the priests symbolically seek the pardon of the Lord for their acts of all omissions and commissions committed either knowingly or unknowingly during the performance of daily rituals to the presiding deity inside the temple all through the year.
On the first day of Pavithra Homam, second day Pavitra Samarpana and on final day Purnahuti will be observed in the temple.
TTD has cancelled Astadalapada Padmaradhana, Sahasra Kalasabhishekam, Tirppavada seva, Kalyanotsavam, Unjal seva, Arjitha Brahmotsavam, Vasanthotsavam, Sahasra Deepalankara Seva during these days.
The Agama ritual is aimed to enhance the divinity and also to ward off bad impact of lapses, if any, during year long conduction of temple rituals, festivals etc., say Agama exponents of
the Srivari temple. The centuries old practice was revived in 1962 and is performed in rigid traditions as a three-day colourful event.
On all three days snapana thirumanjanam will be performed to the utsava idols of Sri Malayappaswamy and his consorts in tne morning.
In the evenings the richly decorated and bejewelled utsava idols will be paraded on the mada streets. While Pavitra Prathishta is conducted on 8 August, Pavitra samarpana on 9 August, and Purnahuti are performed on August 10.
TTD has cancelled scheduled Arjita sevas on all three days including Vasantotsavam Sahasra Deepalankara sevas, Visesha puja, Asta Dala pada padmaradhana, Kalyanotsavam, unjal seva, arjita Brahmotsavams, Vasantotsavam and Sahasra Dipalankara sevas during Pavitrotsavalu.
