Eco-friendly Ganesha idols and using natural colors and material for Ganesh Festival – it was the news item for every daily paper of Mumbai since some years. But this time, Ganesh Festival 2010, will not be green – says Ganesh pandals committee of Mumbai. Recently the state government of Maharashtra requested Ganesh pandals to use eco-friendly colors and to adopt eco-friendly Gnaesh idols to combat environmental pollution. But on 16 July 2010, representatives from various Ganpati pandals in Mumbai protested against the government’s requests.
“80% of preparation of idols have already been done and just painting work is remaining. At this point of time, we cannot give assurance that we will follow the rules or set of requests made by the government”, says a representative of a Ganesh pandal in Mumbai.
