‘Niraputhari’, the annual festival at Sabarimala Ayyappa Temple, is celebrated with utmost fervor on August 6, 2012. Large number of Ayyappa devotees from Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh will throng the temple of Lord Ayyappa and worshipped Swamy during the festival. Devotees believe they will good fortune if participate in this annual event at Sabarimalai. It is believed as an harvest festival of Kerala.
Sabarimala Temple will be opened on August 5th at 5.30 PM and closed on August 6th for Niraputhari festival.
Sabarimala temple priests open the sanctum sanctorum at 4 am with Tantri, Kandarau Maheswararu and perform Ashtadravya Ganapati homom. The main rituals of Niraputhari to start at 5.30 in the morning. Devotees offer paddy spikes to Swamy Ayyappa on the temple’s 18 divine steps. After all these rituals, priests offer ‘Payasam’ as ‘Naivedyom’. The paddy spikes are distributed among devotees as prasadom.
Sahasrakalasabhishekom is also performed as prior to Utchapuja in Sabarimalai Ayyappa Temple.
