Navaratri Sankalpa mantram or Navaratri Sankalpam is the prominent mantra or stotra chanted before starting the Navratri Durga Puja. Sankalpa mantra is the prayer which includes the name, gothra, address, nakshatra at the time of puja, tithi, karana, yoga, during the puja time. In any puja Sankalpa mantram is necessary. If you live in India you need to chant your place as “bharatha khande bharatha varshe, Meror Dakshina digbhage”, and if you live in California (USA) you can chant as “Paschima samudra theere”. If you are confused about the place where you are living, just chant “the country name as ……. Deshe”.
Here is the complete Sankalpa mantra for Navratri Durga Puja 2011:
“Mama upattha samastha duritha kshayadwara Shri durga parameshwari muddishya sri durga parameshwari preethyartham, shubhe shobhane muhurthe sri mahavishno rajnaya pravartamanasya, adya brahmana, dwitiya pararthe shwetha varaha kalpe vyvasvatha manvantare kaliyuge, prathama paade, jambu dweepe, bharata varshe, bharata khande, merordakshina digbhage, samastha devataa brahmana harihara gurucharana sannidhou, asmin varthamane vyavaharika chandramanena (or which ever “maana” of the calendar you follow – chandramana or suryamana or brihaspatimaana), Sri Khara nama samvatsare, dakshinayane, sharad ruthou, ashwayuja mase (ashwin mase), shukla pakshe, shubha thithou (thithi of the day), shubha vasare (vaar … bhanuvaare, brihaspati vaare, etc.), shubha nakshatre (chant the nakshatra of the day), shubha yoge, shubha karane, evam guna viseshana visistayam shubha thithou srimaan/srimathi ….. gothrasya (your gothra), ….namadheya (your name), dharmapathni putradi sametha ( or pati putradhi sametha), mama upattha duritha kshaya dwara sri durga parameshwari preethi dwaaara asmakam saha kutumbanam kshema sthairya dhairya vijaya.. bhayaa yurayuarogya aishwaryabhi vruddhyartham dharmartha kama moksha chaturvidha purushartha phala siddyartam sambhavadbir dravyai sambhavad birupacharai sambhavatha niyamena sri sukta samputikarana vidhanena yavachhakti dhyanavahanadi shodashopachara pujan karishye”
