Sharad Navratri is the most auspicious period of 9 days for Goddess Durga Puja. Navratri begins on the first day of Ashwin Month Shukla Paksha and concludes on the ninth day. It starts with Ghatasthapana (Kalasha Sthapana) and ends with Maha Navami Durga Puja.
Among four Navratri festivals (including Gupt Navratri), Ashwin Navratri is considered highly meritorious and is also celebrated in large scale.
In 2013, Navratri begins on October 5 and ends on October 13. On each day of Navratri, each Navadurga Goddess is worshipped.
