Monthly Kalashtami, 16 September 2014

16 September 2014 is Kalashtami Pujan. Kala Ashtami Vrat falls on Ashtami tithi of Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) of every Hindu month.

Kalashtami is an auspicious day for the devotees of Lord Kalabhairava (a manifestation of Lord Shiva) who observe fasting on this day.

Kalashtami of 16 September 2014 falls in Bhadrapada Month as per Amavasyant calendars and in Ashwin Month as per Purnimant (North Indian Hindi) calendars.

It falls in Aavani Masam of Tamil calendar, Chingam Masam in Malayalam calendar and Bhadra Month in Bengali Panjika.

Kalashtami Vrat is mostly observed in Maharashtra, Deccan Karnataka, Marathi influenced areas of Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and some parts of North India.

Generally, Kalashtami is observed on the day when Ashtami prevails in the night.
