Masi Makam at Mamallapuram | Mahabalipuram Temple Festival during Masi Magam

Masi Makam or Masi Magam is one of the big festivals celebrated at Mamallapuram Thirukkadalmallai temple in Tamil Nadu. In 2016, Masi Magam celebrations will be held on February 22.

As the main festival is celebrated in Chithirai month, this is the second biggest festival of Mahabalipuram temple.

On Masi Magam day, special pujas and rituals are held in Mamallapuram Thirukkadalmallai temple. The utsava vigraha of the temple, ‘Ulaguyya Nindra Piran along with his consorts are taken in procession to the seashore at Mahabalipuram.

At seashore, special abhishegam are peformed. Theerthavari is offered during the festival. Theppotsavam or the float festival is the major attraction of Masi Magam festival.

    One of the 108 Vaishnav deviadesam at Triplicane, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, Sri Parthasarathy Perumal. the Masi Magam will be held on 8th March,’12.The Uthsavar mounted on Garuda vahanam will be taken in procession to the Marina beach ( Bay of Bengal) and theerthavari will be held there. It is in the morning. The bakthas accompany the Perumal and take holy dip in the sea at that time and return.
