Surya Bhagavan enters into Capricron (Makara rashi) on 14 January 2013, at 6.59 AM, in Dhanishta nakshatra Siddhi yoga Garaji karana and Makara lagna in Rudra Muhurtham, Surya Bhagavan enters into Makara Rashi (2nd Pada or Charan of Uttarashada nakshatra). Hence Sankranti is observed on 14th January and the Punyakaal is mentioned as above.
In 2013, as per North Indian Hindi calendars, Marathi, and Gujarati calendars, auspicious time for Makar Sankranti puja is from 7.51 AM to 9.21 AM on 14 January. The time between 11.55 AM and 12.41 PM in the afternoon is also considered good time.
As per Andhra Pradesh (Telugu), Karnataka (Kannada), Tamil (Tamil Nadu) & Malayalam (Kerala) calendars, auspicious time for Sankranthi puja muhuarat is – till 8.30 AM or between – 9.52 AM to 11.15 AM & 12.38 PM to 12.46 PM in the afternoon.
Telugu, Kannada, Tamil and Malayalam people consider Durmuhurtha, Rahukaalam, and Yama gandam, hence the puja muhurat is different from North Indian Hindi calendars.
