Mahalaya Torpon Time in 2017 – 19 September (Mahalaya Tharpanam) muhurtham is given here. Mahalaya Amavasya date is 19 September.
Mahalaya Torpon is a very significant ritual in Bengaliculture. Mahalaya marks the beginning of Devi Paksha and the end of Pitru Paksha. It also marks the traditional countdown of six days to Maha Saptami day.
It is also believed that on this day which marks the onset of Devi Paksha, Goddess Durga begins her journey towards earth from her heavenly abode.
As Amavasya begins at 11 AM on 19 September, the best time to perform Shraddha Tharpana rituals for pitru devatas is – after 11 AM. ‘Kuthapa Vela’ (the time between 11.36 AM and 12.24 noon) is considered even more highly auspicious for Mahalaya Torpon rituals.
Amavasya ends at 10.29 AM on 20 September 2017.
